Hello mr. Ivo (actually you share the same name us on of my friends, Ivosevich). I am from Greece and I am a total junkie for Greek yogurt. I love the creaminess and freshness of greek yogurt. I like it simple, without anything on it. Sometimes I freeze it for 5-7 minutes and that makes it better than ice cream. Actually I bought this yogurt pack as a gift to my father who
loves to make things himself (like wine, olive oil, vinegar etc)

So for a long time I used Trader Joe’s “European Yogurt” as my starter, and I found the taste to be excellent and additionally I was able to re-culture indefinitely at the same quality.
Your bacillus bulgaricus has been really helpful to “restart” without having to go get a new batch of store-bought yogurt; I just pull the dry culture out of the freezer and I’m back in business. I’ve found the taste to be excellent in the first batch, although when I re-culture, the taste gets weaker quickly and I only get about 3 batches before I need to re-start.
The greek yogurt starter of yours that I tried came out to a good consistency, however the taste was mild to the point of blandness. Perhaps that is how Greek yogurt is intended? In any case, it wasn’t bad but I really prefer the more aromatic bulgaricus.
I grow all my batches using an instant pot – usually 2 quarts at a time (~half gallon). It has a handy “boil” function, after which I mix in either starter OR the remains of the last batch, and then I pour the milk + culture mixture into two yogurt tubs and actually do the incubation right in the fridge-ready container. This keeps the finishing step clean, and also as the yogurt does not need to be disturbed between incubation and storage / refrigeration, improves consistency and thickness.

Hey there,
I got the order this weekend and made 4 liters of the greek yogurt yesterday. Smooth, creamy, and a perfect tartness. Delicious!
We’re can’t wait to try the rose flavored yogurt next.
Thank you!

Can the whey strained from the Bulgarian and Greek yogurt be used as a starter for the following batch? So far, I’ve been saving 200 grams of yogurt for my next batch (200 grams
for 4 liters, not sure if that’s too much or not), but wasn’t sure if the whey itself would do the same thing or not.

Hallo
thank you so much, looking forward to try also the Greek yogurt starter!
Best regards

Thanks, I didn’t want to add any thickeners. I wanted to make sure none were added from you.
I wanted to make sure both the Bulgarian and Greek had just the two strands of Bacteria and no additives.
I’ve bought the Bulgarian from you before and made the sample of Greek yogurt today which I liked very much also. I just don’t understand how they are different with just the same two
ingredients.

Hi Ivo,
I love the yogurt! I’ve been making batches every week using the previous week’s yogurt as a starter for the next batch. I think I’ve used the dried starter about three times (one time was a mix of dried starter and yogurt). I ordered the Bulgarian and Greek starters from you and like the Greek better. I have just a little bit of each starter left, so will be placing a new order soon.
with gratitude,
Beth

I normally don’t buy or eat yogurt but I was in Bulgaria a couple of years ago and the yogurt that I had made me feel wonderful. When I do eat it, I eat it because it tastes good but it’s mainly for the probiotics. I do prefer the texture of the thicker yogurt hence the reason I purchased the greek style.
I normally don’t eat/drink cows milk but in this case I will.

My favourite yoghurt is Greek yoghurt. I use in my cake and muffin baking, curries, on top of breakfast cereal or plain with honey on top. Janet B.

I am very happy with the Greek yoghurt culture. I am planning on ordering again and am wondering what the biggest size of Greek yoghurt culture package you could do for me? This is just to save on packaging. However I do also find it very convenient to just open an envelope and add the whole amount into 12 litres of pastuerised milk. Another question I have is there any way I could thicken the yoghurt without draining the whey of it?
Again I am really happy with the Greek yoghurt culture
Regards Maria.

Everything is A-OK, thank you for asking.
I do think your company makes a wonderful yogurt starter
I’m a sugarholic, the ONLY yogurt I’ve ever had in my entire life that I can eat plain – – with absolutely NO sweetener or flavor whatsoever! It has the exact right amount of tartness for my personal taste. In fact, I love it so much that I can easily eat one full quart non-stop in one sitting- – it’s addicting! And at the young tender age of 69, I figure if I’m going to develop an addiction, it might as well be to something that’s good for me, LOL!
I make 1 gallon of yogurt at a time in an incubator that I custom made that allows me to select any temperature required and keep it exactly at that temperature for however long necessary.

hallo ivo,
i only tried the greek yoghurt, and i like it best if i make 0,75 liter and not 1 liter and the waitingtime 14 hours. its a littlebit saur after this time but i sweeten it with jam or maplesyrup.
i live alone, so that is enough yoghurt for a few days.
i can recommend you to other people, its a good starter.
greetings,
annie

Hi Ivo, today I used your Greek yogurt starter for the first time, and the results are amazing! It tastes fantastic, it can’t be compared with the yogurts I made before using other companies starters. I am planning to make several generations, so I put aside some of the yogurt. Many thanks for the great product!

I love good Greek style yogurt! Also, I am a long distance runner (I run about 70 km every week), so I need some healthy protein, without too much fat (and better without added chemistry). In addition, I am allergic to nuts, so actually I do not have much choice… I eat small amount of yogurt 90 minutes before a long run (20+ km) or / and any amount right after run,
or just as a desert.
I can buy yogurt in shops, but it has preservatives and other things I prefer not to eat. And it is not cheap as well. Making my own yogurt at home, while using high quality ingredients, is much better.
I have got a simple yogurt maker, which makes 1 liter of yogurt. So, I make yogurt 3 times a week (1 liter each time)!
Now, during lockdowns (due to corona), we spend much more time at home, so it is not a problem to find several minutes to do the simple steps needed for making yogurt, and as the result, I have a fresh high-quality yogurt at home, whenever I want it!
Best regards,
Miriam

ready to order again!

Hi Ivo,
I bought the Greek Yogurt starter. My first batch failed, I believe because I didn’t use the correct amount of starter for my half gallon of milk. (I used a 1/4 tsp.). For my second batch I
used 1/2 tsp. and it turned out great! I’d been hoping for something thicker than I’d been making using store bought yogurt as a starter, but also not too tart. Using your Greek Yogurt
starter, I got a wonderfully thick, mildly tart yogurt. No need to search further!

Thanks Ivo. My ongoing interest in making greek.bulgarian yogurt at home in my kitchen is:
1…better texture
2…better flavor
3…fun process
4…better price than supermarket
5…more access to a wide variety of starter cultures

I like Greek yogurt daily

My reason for my purchase is I have a thermomix and have just see a demonstration on how to make it so I thought to give it a try and make my own Greek Yoghurt as I want it to be authentic as possible whilst saving me dollars.

Hi,
I just made some yoghurt from your Greek starter and goats milk.
Best,

Ivo,
I really like the Greek style. I also add a couple of tablespoons of powdered milk to make it thicker. Better than straining it.
I bought a larger amount of starter last time and I also use my yogurt to start the next batch.
