This is a long-handle open spoon with a spatula end. It is made of high quality food grade 18/8 stainless steel.
The spoon makes scooping the starter out of the bag an absolute breeze and helps you easily measure the perfect quantity of starter every time.
The spoon is sized and shaped in a way that allows you to effortlessly measure 1 gram of starter, and the spatula side lets you get even more precise weights if needed.
The spoon is so convenient that you’ll soon find yourself using it daily around the kitchen, and not just for scooping out starter from the pack.
The long handle is the perfect size to reach into the sachet, and then stir the milk in a mason jar or any deep container.
The flat part of the spatula end makes handling the spoon extremely easy as it allows for an easy firm grip.
The full length of The Schaufel is 8 in / 20 cm. The spoon end, with its 1.2 in / 3 cm length and 0.8 in / 2 cm width, has a liquid volume capacity of 1.5 ml or 1/4 tsp and is shaped like a shovel to make scooping easier (hence the name – Schaufel means shovel in German). The spatula end is 0.4 in / 1 cm wide and 3.5 in / 9 cm long and allows for measuring any small amount of starter, powder, etc. which makes The Schaufel versatile and useful for many applications.
The spoon is made of 100% food grade stainless steel, which makes it rust-proof and rust-free, and gives it a glossy shiny finish that won’t fade or tarnish over time.
Clean under running water or throw it in the dishwasher – it is super easy to clean and virtually maintenance free.

Usage
The spoon spatula can be used for handling all foodstuffs. 18/8 stainless steel is widely used as a product contact material throughout the pharmaceutical and food industries.
Dishwasher safe.

Note: As with any stainless steel product, exercise caution when using with acidiferous products for prolonged time. Always wash and dry after use.

Usage
The packs are packaged and labeled with the grams they contain and the volume those grams make when used entirely in one go.
The packs are intended for single use, or their contents could be split for multiple use (with the exception of the Sourdough starter which should always be used in one go).
When you split the pack, take out as much as you need to make your yogurt, then reseal and refreeze the remaining starter for later. Make sure you store the sachets in a way that prevents moisture from getting in, i.e. well closed in a Ziploc bag or wrapped around and fastened with a rubber band.
When you split the contents of the pack and use less starter amount to make smaller volumes, keep in mind that you are also reducing the total amount of yogurt that you can make from the pack (read more on that here). I am very sensitive to fillers and excipients in supplements and medicines and I am happy to find out that the only ingredients in the spoon starter are organic milk and the two bacterial cultures.
Also, I am “ultra” sensitive to any lactose. I can tolerate lactose-free milk from the supermarket and I use this to make spoon at home successfully!
