This is an authentic Bulgarian heirloom yogurt starter. Each pack contains loose powder mix, in perfect proportions, of the two strains required to make Bulgarian yogurt — lactobacillus bulgaricus and streptococcus thermophilus. It makes thick, creamy and absolutely delicious yogurt.
The starter is organic and fully natural with no preservatives, additives, artificial colors or flavors. It contains no GMO ingredients and it is gluten free.
This is a heirloom yogurt starter with live active bacteria, which means that you can reuse yogurt from your previous batch to culture your new batch, for as long as you wish.

I use the Bacillus Bulgaricus kefir starter for making hot sauce, which just happens to be fantastic! It was a complete accident as to how this came to be – I needed a probiotic starter to “encourage” my hot sauce ferment to do its thing and the Bacillus Bulgaricus kefir starter was the only thing I had on hand. For us it is the ideal way of using our raw milk: in the coffee or tea it can smell a little too wild…

The first batch – made in a Luvele machine with four 400cc pots I left for nearly 24 hours. The yoghurt was set firm and was mild but with a sharp after taste. Delicious. The second batch was made with 2tbs of yogurt from the first batch. I left this for about nine hours until it was set firm. Taste is excellent.
Both batches used whole milk heated to 80c and kept there for five minutes. Cooled to 43 when the starter/culture was added, fermentation temp was 40c constant. Refrigerated for six hours before eating. Kept at 5c.
Very pleased with the quality of the yogurt.

The reason I make this yogurt is: I have diagnosis from my doctor beginning of Parkinson.
My friend found an article from Max Plank institute in internet, so I found out about Bacillus Bulgaricus.
When I worked and lived in Bangladesh 38 years ago. We use to make yogurt there out of milk powder. This was the only stuff available and a starter. Than I made the yogurt of the previous one. Best regards

Hi Ivo, your yoghurt tastes really good, i like it a lot. What kind of milk and duration would you suggest? Is milk with 3,8% fat ok? Is there a difference between cooking the milk by myself or use homogenized, ultra high heated milk?
I tried 9 and 10 hours in a electrical yoghurt maker, gives a longer duration a more sour yoghurt?
Im not sure if eating yoghurt has any effect on my health, or on the ulcerative colitis, but i like it a lot and it will be part of my daily breakfast 🙂

I new Bulgarian yogurt is famous in the world and I have been in Bulgaria before. I eat yogurt all the time with lunch and dinner. I use to buy it from grocery store and did not like it much.
