This is authentic Bulgarian heirloom Yogurt Starter, the same as our original Bulgarian yogurt starter, only with added extract from the famous Bulgarian Rose Damascena, known as the Queen of roses.
It makes genuine Bulgarian yogurt (kiselo mlyako) of exceptional quality with classic Bulgarian yogurt taste, thickness, acidity and aroma with just a touch of rose flavor.
This is an authentic classic original Bulgarian heirloom yogurt starter culture made with naturally sourced lactic acid cultures, isolated from natural sources in ecologically preserved areas in Bulgaria. It is produced and packaged in Bulgaria.
Each pack contains loose powder mix, in perfect proportions, of the two strains required to make Bulgarian yogurt — lactobacillus bulgaricus and streptococcus thermophilus. It makes thick, creamy and absolutely delicious yogurt.
Bacillus Bulgaricus yogurt starter is fully natural with no additives, preservatives, artificial colors or flavors. It contains no GMO ingredients and it is gluten free.
It is manufactured and harvested in a strictly regulated sterile environment so it does not contain nor it has been in contact with nuts, soy and other common allergens.
This is a heirloom yogurt starter with live active bacteria, which means that you can reuse yogurt from your previous batch to culture your new batch, for as long as you wish.
Each pack contains freeze-dried live active lactic acid yogurt starter cultures. Since the bacteria is grown on organic dried milk powder, the pack also contains a minute (very small) quantity of dried organic milk powder, which is completely consumed by the bacteria during fermentation. The resulting yogurt is completely lactose free if made with dairy milk and completely dairy-free if made with dairy-free milk.

Best to store in the FREEZER.
Bacillus Bulgaricus starters are best kept in a cold dry place. Your fridge or freezer works best for this.
You can store the packs in your freezer, at around 0°F (-18°C) or lower, for two years.
You can store the packs in your fridge, at around 40°F (4°C), for one year.
You can store the packs at room temperature for up to a year.
Unfreezing the starter packs and freezing them again (e.g. when using only a portion) is OK to do, even multiple times.
Transporting the packs (i.e. shipping them to you) is perfectly OK and will not damage the live cultures. We use a freeze-dried process that keeps the strains alive even during long trips at ambient temperatures. Once you receive your starter packs – pop them in the refrigerator or the freezer for best storage.
The packs are best used at once. They are packaged and labeled with the grams they contain and the volume those grams make when used entirely in one go. However if you decide to split their content you can of course do so. Take out as much as you need in order to make yogurt, then reseal and refreeze the remaining starter for later. You can see this post for more information about splitting the packs and how much starter to use for different volumes of milk.
How to use our Yogurt Starter
It is super easy to make yogurt using this yogurt starter. You can make your own yogurt with or without the help of an yogurt maker.
When you introduce the live culture into prepared milk the streptococcus thermophilus bacteria goes into action first and prepares the perfect environment for lactobacillus bulgaricus, which starts multiplying and slowly turns the milk into genuine Bulgarian yogurt.
These two beneficial, transient bacteria work together in the fermentation process that turns milk into the world’s best yogurt.
The process takes approximately 6-10 hours to complete.
